Sequoia National Park
Published Monday, July 13th 2020This June my family and I headed out on a mini road trip to explore Sequoia National Park. It has been several years since I've been there but I will say it is quite spectacular in early summer.
Our adventure began with hiking the Giant Forest which contains five of the ten largest trees in the world. This 0.8-mile roundtrip paved trail descends from the parking lot to the base of the General Sherman tree (which boasts the largest tree on earth!) and meanders through a grove of giant sequoia trees. The immense size of these trees are quite impressive as well as the stillness of the forest. There is nothing quite like walking through this beautiful flora and fuana taking in the fresh scents of the forest and hearing nothing but the breeze stirring the leaves on these century old trees.
The next day we decided to hike up to Tokopah Falls which starts just beyond the Lodgepole Campground. It is an easy 1.7 mile (one way) walk along the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River to the impressive granite cliffs and cascading waterfall of Tokopah Canyon. The breathtaking views of the granite landscape was a sight to behold.
I have to say, after 79 days on "pause" it was nice to reconnect with my family and with nature. This period of reflection has been a surprising blessing in it's own way, and as I start to travel again I know I will be embarking on these trips with more intention and excitement than ever before.
